Rise of the Silent Assassin

Rangana Herath is now sharing the 2nd position of ICC Test bowling rankings with Vernon Philander, both of them are there with 838 points. Only Dale Steyn is ahead of them with 880 point. According to this rankings Herath is the highest ranked spinner in the world at the moment. This is probably the greatest highlight of his career. His number of points, 838 is his career best. Many would argue as Saeed Ajmal or Graeme Swann is the current best spinner in the world. Herath doesn't have many variations or anything special other than tight lines and lengths. But he is effective. He had to fill the vacuum left by Murali. Probably he will not be able to fill it completely. But Herath has been doing it really well until now.

Sri Lanka's home test series against Pakiatan in 2009 has been the turning point of Rangana Herath's career. He wasn't there in the original squad or in selectors minds. He was light years away from playing for Sri Lanka again. He was able to pick just 1 wicket by giving away 115 runs against Bangladesh in his last match, in 2008. His career figures was standing as

14-Matches 36-Wickets 39.38- Average 7/132 - Best Bowling (against Pakistan)

Not impressive at all. Reason for these figures partly because of Murali's dominance and partly Herath not getting opportunities consistently. This has been the fate of most of the Sri Lankan spinners during Murali's era.

Destiny is a funny thing and some things are meant to be. Just a day before the start of 1st test at Galle, Murali got injured. 22 years old Suraj Randiv who was yet to make his debut, was the 3rd spinner in the squad (Ajantha Mendis was there). (Add to that Prasanna Jayawardene also was injured and Kaushal Silva was the extra wicket keeper in the squad). Angelo Mathews was certain to make his test debut in this match. By looking at the injured list and the squad, it was looking like Sri Lanka will play 3 debutants in the 1st test. But Kumar Sangakkara who was Sri Lankan captain did not want to take a risk with too many debutants. He wanted Herath in the squad as soon as possible, probably because of Pakistan's weakness against slow left arm spin and Herath's ability to open the innings ? (Herath opened the 2nd innings as nightwatchman with Warnapura). Herath was playing in the Staffordshire League in England when he was summoned. He landed Sri Lanka just few hours before the start of the match. Luckily for Herath, Pakistan chose to field 1st. (Even though this is irrelevant, to complete the story :- Sri Lanka decided to go with Dilshan as the wicket keeper and Saeed Ajmal made his test debut for Pakistan).

It took 47 overs to bowl Herath in the 1st innings, mainly to give him more time to recover from jet lag. He took 1 for 52 in 16 overs. But his career turning bowling spell happened in the 2nd innings. At the end of day 3, Pakistan were 71/2 chasing 168. Chances were looking bleak for Sri Lanka. But Herath turned the match on its head. Herath managed to remove both overnight batsmen in his 1st over of the day. Pakistan collapsed from 71/2 to 117 allout. Herath's figures were 4/15 in 11.3 overs. This was the time Herath shown that he belongs to test cricket. Herath played all 3 test matches and managed to pick 15 wickets at 26.93, also the 2nd highest wicket taker in the series.

Since then, he never looked back. From July 2009, he has picked 138 wickets at 27.14 in 28 matches. Since Herath made his came back in July 2009, among the bowlers who have managed to take more than 50 wickets, this is where he stands.

However Herath is among the highest wicket takers in the year 2012 so far. It is a close run between Swann and Herath.

Swann has 56 wickets from 13 matches (23 innings) and Herath 55 wickets from 8 matches (15 innings). You can say Herath has played most of his matches on Asian spin friendly pitches. But except 5 matches in England, Swann also has played 8 matches in Asia. If we consider the average, Saeed Ajmal has the best average of 20.56 in 6 matches (12 innings) and Herath is 2nd best with 20.94. Got to mention that Ajmal played all his 6 matches in Asian pitches and Herath's 8 matches includes the new year test at Cape Town. However these statistics will change since Swann has the Nagpur test and Herath has 2 tests in Australia.

This is Herath's performances in Sri Lanka's last 3 series.

It is safe to say that Herath has able to out played all opposition bowlers including Swann and Ajmal in these series. Herath might not be able to fill Murali's shoes completely. But He is doing pretty well at this stage of post Murali era in Sri Lankan cricket.

Why Samaraweera not getting the respect he deserves

If you ask from most of the cricket fans who is the best batsman in Sri Lanka, most of them would say either Kumar Sangakkara or Mahela Jayawardene. But there is a man who is always there to rescue Sri Lanka when they are in a trouble. Who doesn't speak much, but very determined player. Who started his career as on off spinner, but he transformed himself into a high quality test batsman after realizing he will not be able to make into the playing XI until the Legend Murali is there. Even a bullet traveled 12 inches into his thigh could not stop this man. He is Thilan Samaraweera. Many people criticize him as a heavy runs scorer in batting friendly subcontinent conditions.

Let's have a look at highest overall averages by Sri Lankan test batsman who has played more than 20 test matches.

Definition of a great batsman could be subjective. But generally what we expect from a great player is ability to perform in all conditions against quality bowling. Let's see Sri Lankan batsmen with top averages out side subcontinent against top test playing nations [which means excluding Zimbabwe and Bangladesh]. Minimum qualification is players who have played at least 10 Test matches in Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies.

You can see most of the batsmen having difference of about 10 runs between overall average and this average. Surprisingly Asanka Gurusinha has a better average outside subcontinent than in subcontinent. After that, Samaraweera has the best average. Sangakkara is just behind him. Marvan Atapattu averaged 35.68 which is a decent figure for a test opener. T.M. Dilshan averages 34.21 , but 11 out of 16 matches he has played as a middle order batsman. In other 5 matches as an opener, he averages 44.33 outside subcontinent. Mahela Jayawardene average miserable 32.53 outside subcontinent.

Even outside the subcontinent there could be high scoring runs fiestas. So let's see their record excluding drawn matches. This might be bit harsh considering an interesting draws like Adelaide test [Australia vs South Africa] in couple of weeks ago also get exclude with this. Match saving innings like Faf du Plessis's will not get any credit, but this is the only way to exclude draws on high ways. So no need to consider this stat much seriously. But still this does mean something.

In that sense Samaraweera has the best average from Sri Lanka. Sangakkara just behind him. Others ? I don't know what to say. You decide.

Samaraweera started his career as a spinner. People said he is a flat track bully after he improved his batting. He had a point to prove in Sri Lanka's tour of South Africa in last year. Surprising many, he became Sri Lanka's best batsman in that tour. Thanks to centuries from Samaraweera and Sangakkara at Durban, Sri Lanka managed to record their first ever Test win in South Africa. He tried his best at Cape Town to save the 3rd test but just managed to carry his bat with a century in the 2nd innings. These statistics prove that Samaraweera is Sri Lanka's one of the best batsmen in away conditions and probably the best in handling swing and seam movement. As above table suggests, Samaraweera has another [and some other Sri Lankan batsmen who has more gifted talent than Samaraweera, have a] point to prove in upcoming Sri Lanka's tour of Australia.


Samaraweera may not be the most gifted batsman Sri Lanka ever produced. But certainly he is one of the grittiest players ever to play the game.

How I met Nancy Ajram

It's 12.32 am Sri Lanka standard time. About half an hour ago probably I didn't know a person as Nancy Ajram does exist. According to wikipedia she is an Arabic pop singer. So what is so special about this ? I don't know. I felt that this story worth a blog post.

Since few days I'm in a musical relationship with Sri Lankan female singer Shasika Nisansala. It is not that I got to know her recently. But I started to listen to her song carefully recently. First a Sinhala romantic song of Kasun Kalhara & Prathiba Prabha was stuck in my mind few days ago. Many of us have kinda 'song of the day' , right ? That lyrics comes to your mind every time & song is playing in your mind. This is something similar to that. Kasun's & Prathiba's song was in mind for more than a day. I liked that feeling. Then I tried to remember few other songs like that. Shasika Nisansala's Aakasaye Dura Gimhana Eure song came to my mind straight away. May be because of Kasun Kalhara's music and Shasika's voice.

I liked that song as well. I did listen to that song a whole day. I wanted more songs like this. I found Shasika's Gimhana Kale song as well. Then another one, Ma Ahase Liyu De , which is my favorite song at the moment (Kasun is the music director of latter). I could find an official video for Gimhana Kale, so tried to find an Shasika appearing official video for Gimhana Kale as well and there wasn't. But I noticed this video.


I liked the visuals and the pretty girl ;-) I wanted to watch the original video or the movie. But no mention about the video source. How could I find it ?

First thing I did was getting few screen shots & googling using the google image search. But that wasn't successful. Then I analysed the video. Obvious thing anybody can notice is people in the visuals are Asians. So I guessed it could be from an Indian movie or a Pakistani / Arabian movie. Then I noticed a person wearing a turban at 2:19 , he is more like a employer. In my experience, lot of non-Indian films do use this trick to indicate an Indian. So I assumed that this can not be an Indian movie. Also can't think about having an Indian employer characters in a Pakistani movie. So I left with only option of Arabian movies.

By gestures at 1:54 you can imagine the boy is deaf and mute. Now I know 2 things.

1. It is an Arabian movie.
2. The girl loves a deaf and mute guy.

I googled for Arabian movies. But that was fruitless.

Then I went back to most obvious observation. The girl is beautiful, isn't it ? So googled 'Arabian Actress' and got results saying 50 Beautiful Arab Girls, Beautiful Arabic Actress Photos kinda things. This link worked for me. I carefully looked every girl and found the girl in the video at 6 in the list. Now I know her name - Nancy Ajram. Then I googled and found that she is a singer. So that visuals could be from one of her music videos. I searched on Youtube and found this.

පිරිහෙන ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා හා පොලිස් පඹයන්

ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩාංගනවලට රටේ නීතිය අදාළ නොවේද?

ක්‍රිකට් යනු අපේ නිල නොලත් ජාතික ක්‍රීඩාවයි. වයස් භේදයකින් තොරව, බාල-වැඩිහිටි-මහළු අති බහුතරයක් ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් තම ජීවනාලියේ කොටසක් ලෙස ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩාවට ඇලුම් කරයි. මේ සියලු වයස් කාණ්ඩ වල පුද්ගලයන්ට තමන් කැමති ක්‍රීඩාව ක්‍රීඩාංගන වලට ගොස් සුවපහසුව නැරඹීමේ අයිතියක් ඇත. එයට යම් බාධාවක් වේනම්, එයට පිළියම් යෙදීම බළධාරීන් සතු වගකීමකි.

පහතින් දැක්වෙන්නේ මේ වනවිට පැවැත්වෙන SLPL තරඟාවලියේ ප්‍රවේශ පත්‍රයක පිටුපස කොටසක්. ඔබට දැකගත හැකියි මෙහි ඉංග්‍රීසියෙන් 'No Smoking' යනුවෙන්, ක්‍රීඩාංගනය තුළ දුම්බීම තහනම් බව දක්වා තිබෙනවා. මෙයට අමතරව ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ නීතිය අනුව ප්‍රසිද්ධ ස්ථානවල දුම්බීම තහනම්ය. නමුත් මෙම නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක වන බවක් අපට නොපෙනේ. පසුගියදා මහනුවර පල්ලෙකැළේ හිදී පැවති තරඟ වලදී අවුරුදු 21ට අඩු ගැටයන් පවා දුම්වැටියක් කටේ ගසාගෙන දුම්පිටකරමින්, පොලිස් නිලධාරීන් ඉදිරිපිටම සිටියේය. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ නීතිය ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩාංගන තුළට වළංගු නොවේද ? නැතහොත් ක්‍රීඩාංගන ප්‍රසිද්ධ ස්ථානලෙස වටහා නොගැනීමට තරම් නිලධාරීන් මුග්ධද ?

මේ පිළිබඳව පොලිස් නිලධාරීන්ගෙන් විමසීමේදී ඔවුන් තමාගේ ඇස් ඉදිරිපිට සිටින සිගැරැට් උරන්නන් පෙන්වන ලෙස අපෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටී. එක් උසස් නිලධාරියෙක් අපට කීවේ, "අද නීතියක් කොහෙද තියෙන්නෙ. අනික මේවා අපිට කරන්න පුළුවන් දේවල් නෙමෙයි. අපිට උඩින් නියෝග දීල නෑ මේව කරන්න කියල." යනුවෙනුයි. මේ රටේ නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට සිටින නිලධාරීන්ගේ අදහසයි. රටේ නීතියක් නොමැති නම්, එයට වගකිවයුතු වන්නේ මෙවැනි අපෘෂ්ඨවංශී [කශේරුකාවක් නොමැති] නිලධාරීන්ම නොවේද ? අනෙක් අතට මේ නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කළයුතුයි, මෙය ක්‍රියාත්මක නොකළ යුතුයි යනුවෙන් ඇඟිල්ලෙන් ඇන ඇන එක් එක් නීතිය ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිසියට පෙන්විය යුතුබවද මේ නිලධාරියා පවසන්නේ ? මෙහිදී තවත් නිලධාරියෙන් ක්‍රීඩාංගන තුළ දුම්බීමට ඉඩ ලබාදීම වරදක් බව පිළිගැනීමට තරම් නිහතමානී වූ බව පැවසීමද අපගේ යුතුකමකි.

2006 අංක 27 දරන දුම්කොළ හා මද්‍යසාර පිළිබඳ ජාතික අධිකාරිය පනතේ 39 වගන්තිය පහත අයුරින්වේ.

39 යම් කොටුකරන ලද පොදු ස්ථානයක් ඇතුළත කිසිම තැනැත්තෙකු විසින් යම් දුම්කොළ නිෂ්පාදන පානය කිරීම හෝ යම් තැනැත්තෙකුට එසේ කිරීමට ඉඩදීම නොකළ යුතුය.

(2) යම් කොටුකරන ලද පොදු ස්ථානයක, අයිතිකරුවකු, පදිංචිකරුවකු, හිමිකරුවකු, කළමනාකරුවකු, භාරකරුවකු හෝ එම ස්ථානය භාරව සිටින යම් තැනත්තෙකු විසින් ඒ කොටුකරන ලද ස්ථානය ඇතුළත දුම් නිෂ්පාදන කිසිවක් භාවිතා කරමින් දුම් පානය නොකරන බවට සහතික විය යුතුය.

එසේ වුවද, (1) වන උප වගන්තියෙ විධිවිධාන වල කුමක් සඳහන් වුවද, -

(අ ) කාමර තිහක් හෝ ඊට වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයක් ඇති හෝටලයක, ආගන්තුක නිවාසයක හෝ තාවකාලික නවාතැන්පොළක (ලොජ්);

(ආ) අවම වශයෙන් පුද්ගලයන් තිහකට වාඩිවී සිටීමට ඉඩකඩ ඇති යම් ආපන ශාලාවක හෝ සමාජ ශාලාවක; හෝ

(ඇ ) යම් ගුවන් තොටුපළක,

දුම් පානය සඳහා අනන්‍ය ලෙස වෙන් කරන ලද අවස්ථාවෝචිත පරිදි කොටුකරන ලද ස්ථානයක් හෝ ප්‍රදේශයක් එම ප්‍රිශ්‍රය තුළ තුබිය හැකිය. එම ප්‍රදේශයට ප්‍රමාණවත් වාතාශ්‍රය ලබා දිය යුතු අතර, එය නියමිත වාතයෙහි තත්වය පිළිබඳ ප්‍රමිති වලට අනුකූල විය යුතුය.

(3) අමාත්‍යවරයා විසින් සෞඛ්‍ය සේවා අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරයා විමසා මෙම වගන්තියේ විධිධාන බලාත්මක කිරීම සහ නියාමනය කිරීම සඳහා අවශ්‍යවිය හැකි වෙනත් යම් ලිඛිත නීතියකට අනනුකූල නොවන සාමාන්‍ය හෝ විශේෂ විධාන නිකුත් කරනු ලැබිය හැකි ය.

(4) (1) වන සහ (2) වන උප වගන්තිවල විධිව්ධාන උල්ලංගනය කරන යම් තැනැත්තෙක් මේ පනත යටතේ වරදකට වැරදිකරු වන අතර, මහෙස්ත්‍රාත්වරයෙකු ඉදිරිපිට පවත්වනු ලබන ලඝු නඩු විභාගයකින් පසුව වරදකරු කිරීමේදී රුපියල් දෙදහසකට වැඩි නොවන දඩයකට හෝ අවුරුදු එකකට වැඩි නොවන කාලයක් සඳහා බන්ධනාගාර ගත කිරීමකට හෝ ඒ දඩය හා බන්ධනාගාරගත කිරීම යන දෙකටම ඔහු යටත් විය යුතුය.

(5) මේ වගන්තියේ කාර්ය සඳහා පොදු ස්ථානයක් යන්නෙන් මහජනයාට අයිතියක් වශයෙන් හෝ අන්‍යාකාරයකට ප්‍රවේශ විය හැකි වූ ද යම් ස්ථානයක් අදහස් වේ.

"කොටු කරන ලද පොදු ස්ථානයක්" යන්නට රජයේ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවක්, ව්‍යවස්ථාපිත අධිකාරියක් හෝ මණ්ඩලයක් හෝ රජයේ ආයතනයක්, කාර්යාක පරිශ්‍ර, බැංකු, අධිකරන ශාලා, ශ්‍රවණාගාර, ක්‍රීඩා සංකීර්ණ, ආරෝග්යශාලා, සායන, බෙහෙත් ශාලා, විද්‍යාගාර, පාසල්, විශ්ව විද්‍යාල හෝ වෙනත් අධ්‍යාපනික ආයතන, පුස්ථකාල, කෞතුකාගාර, ආගමික ස්ථාන, හෝටල්, ආගන්තුක නිවාස, තාවකාලික නවාතැන්පොළ (ලොජ්), නේවාසිකාගාර, ආපනශාලා, සමාජශාලා, අන්තර්ජාල මධ්‍යස්ථාන, චිත්‍රපටශාලා, නාට්‍යය රඟහල්, සුපිරි වෙළඳසැල්, ගුවන්තොටුපළ, දුම්‍රිය ස්ථානවල හෝ බස් නැවතුම් පොළවල් වල විවේකාගාර, යම් පොදු වැසිකිලි, ගොඩනැගිලි, ගොඩනැගිලි තනා ඇති ස්ථාන හා විදුලි සෝපාන ඇතුළත් වේ.

සරල බසින් පවසනවා නම්, ක්‍රීඩා සංකීර්ණයක් වැනි ප්‍රසිද්ධ ස්ථානයක් දුම් බීම හා දුම් බීමට ඉඩදීම වරදක් වන අතර, වරද කරුවෙකුට අවම වශයෙන් රු. 2 000 ක දඩයක් හා/හෝ උපරිම වශයෙන් වසරක බන්ධනාගාර ගතවීමකට සිදුවේ. ඒ අනුව මෙසේ නීතිය කඩ කිරීමට ඉඩ ලබාදීම නිසා, ක්‍රීඩාංගනයේ හිමිකාරත්වය දරන ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනයට මෙන්ම නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට සිටින පොලිසියට එරෙහිව නීතිමය ක්‍රියාමාර්ග ගැනීමට ඔබට හැකියාවක් ඇත.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට පැමිණෙන සංචාරකයන්ට ලබාදෙන උපදෙස් වලද පැහැදිලිවම සඳහන්ව ඇති කරුණක් නම්, ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුළදී ප්‍රසිද්ධ ස්ථානවල දුම්බීමෙන් වලකින ලෙසත්, එය දඬුවම් ලැබිය හැකි වරදක් බවත් ය.

රටේ නීතිය මෙන්ම තමන්ම පැනවූ නීතිය ක්‍රිකට් ආයතන කඩයි

දැන් අප මීලඟ කරුණට යොමුවෙමු. මේ දැක්වෙන්නේද SLPL ටිකට් පතක පසුපස කොටසකි. ඒ අනුව මද්ධ්‍යසාර පාන ක්‍රීඩාංගන තුළදී භාවිතා කිරීමට අවසර නොමැත. නමුත් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය මේ වරදත් සිදුවීමට ඉඩලබාදී තිබේ.

මේ පල්ලෙකැළේ ක්‍රීඩාංගනයේ තිබූ බීර හලේ තිබූ පුවරුවකි. ඒ අනුව වයස අවුරුදු 21 ට අඩු අයට බීර නොවිකුණන බව ඔවුන් පවසයි. නමුත් අප ඇසින් දුටු කරුණ වන්නේ වයස අවුරුදු 21 ට අඩු ගැටවු පවා කිසිඳු අපහසුවකින් තොරව බීර ලබාගැනීමයි. තවද දුම්වැටි වෙළඳාමද මොවුන් සිදුකරන ලදි. එහිදී ද වයසක් නොසලකා වෙළඳාම සිදුකිරීමට මොවුන් කටයුතු කරන ලදි.

පෙර සඳහන් කළ පනතේ 31 වගන්තිය මෙසේය;

31 (1) යම් තැනැත්තෙකු විසින් අවුරුදු 21 ට අඩු තැනැත්තන් සඳහා දුම්කොළ නිෂ්පාදන හෝ මද්‍යසාර නිෂ්පාදන කිසිවක් අලෙවි කිරීම, අලෙවි කිරීම සඳහා ඉදිරිපත් කිරීම හෝ ඒවා අලෙවි කිරීම සඳහා ඉඩදීම හෝ ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීම නොකළ යුතුය.

(2) (1) වන උප වගන්තියේ විධිවිධාන උල්ලංගනය කරන කිසියම් තැනැත්තෙකු මේ පනත යටතේ වරදකට වරදකරු වියයුතු අතර, මහෙස්ත්‍රාත්වරයෙකු ඉදිරිපිට පවත්වනු ලබන ලඝු නඩු විභාගයකින් පසු වරදකරු කරනු ලැබීමේදී රුපියල් හාරදහසකට නොවැඩි දඩයකට හෝ අවුරුදු එකකට නොවැඩි කාලයක් සඳහා බන්ධනාගාරගත කිරීමකට හෝ ඒ දඩය සහ බන්ධනාගාරගත කිරීම යන දඬුවම් දෙකටම හෝ යටත් විය යුතු ය.

(3) මේ පනත යටතේ වරදක් සිදු කිරීමේ දී යම් තැනැත්තෙකු වරදකරු වීමේ දී, ඔහු විසින් දුම්කොළ නිෂ්පාදන හෝ මද්‍යසාර නිෂ්පාදන විකුණනු ලැබුවේ ඇවුරුදු විසි එකට වැඩි තැනැත්තෙකුට යයි නිශ්චය කිරීමට හැකි සියලු සාධාරණ පියවර ගත් බව විත්තිවාචකයක් වශයෙන් ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමේ අවස්ථාව තිබිය යුතු ය.

සරලව පවසන්නේ නම්, අවුරුදු 21 ට අඩු අයට දුම්වැටි හා මද්යසාර විකිණීම, විකිණීමට ඉඩදීම නීතියෙන් තහනම් වන අතර, එයට වරදකරුවකු වන තැනැත්තෙකුට අවම වශයෙන් රු. 4 000 ක දඩයක් හා/හෝ උපරිම වශයෙන් වසරක් බන්ධනාගාරගත කිරීමක් නියම කිරීමට හැකිය.

වයස 21 කට අඩු අයට බීර වෙළඳාම තබා, ක්‍රීඩාංගනය තුළදී කාටහෝ වෙළඳාමම ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය තමුන්ගේම නීතිය කඩකිරීමකි. එයට අමතරව, දුම් බොන්නන් සඳහා විශේෂ කලාප නම් නොකර, ක්‍රීඩාංගන තුළ දුම්වැටි වෙළඳාමට අවසර ලබා දීමෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය රටේ නීතිය කඩ කිරීමට අනුබල දී තිබේ.

ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩාව අප සැවොගේම ක්‍රීඩාවයි. බොහෝවිට ක්‍රීඩාංගන වලට නරඹන්නන් පැමිණෙන්නේ පවුල් පිටින්මය. එහිදී මෙවැනි මුග්ධ දුම්බොන්නන් අසල සිටීමෙන් කුඩා දරුවන් සිටින මවුපියන් කොතරම් අපහසුතාවකට පත්වනවා ඇත්ද යන්න අත්දැකීම් ඇති අය දනී. මේ ආකරයට දුම් බීමට ඉඩදීම හෝ බීර වෙළඳාම පළමුව සිදුවූ අවස්ථාව මෙය නොවේ. මෙය බොහෝ කලක පටන් සිදුවන්නකි. නමුත් මෙතෙක් කල් ජනතාව මුනිවත රැකීම සමාජයේ පිරිහීමට මඟ පාදන්නකි. Vuvuzela තහනමට මොකද වුනේ ?

මේ අතර පසුගිය ඉන්දීයානු එක්දින තරඟාවලිය අතරතුර, ජාත්ය්යන්තර විස්තර විචාරක ටෝනි ග්‍රේග් මහත්මයාගේ මැදිහත් වීම අනුව ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය විසින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ක්‍රීඩාංගන තුළට ගෙන ඒම තහනම් කළ 'වුවුසෙලා' [Vuvuzela] නළාව නැවත SLPL තරඟාවලිය අතරතුරදී අපට දක්නට ලැබුණි. ඉතා කඨෝර ශබ්දක් උපදවන මෙම නළාව ප්‍රේක්ෂකයන්ට හිරිහැරයකි. මෙම ඡායාරූපයෙන් දැක්වෙන්නේ SLPL තරඟයක් අතරතුර නරඹන්නෙක් වුවුසෙලා නළාවක් පිඹින අකාරය අකාරය අපගේ කැමරා කාචයේ සටහන් වූ අයුරුයි.

මේ පිළිබඳව අප ක්‍රීඩාංගනයේ සිටි පොලිස් නිලධාරීන්ගෙන් විමසීමේදී දැනගන්නට ලැබුනේ, මේ පිළිබඳව ඔවුන්ව දැනුවත් කර නොමැති බවයි. තවද ඔවුන්, එම උපකරන පරීක්ෂා කිරීම ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය මඟින් යොදන ආරක්ෂක නිලධාරීන්ගේ වගකීමක් යනුවෙන් පවසා කරඇරීය. නමුත් ප්‍රේක්ශකයන් ක්‍රීඩාංගනයට ඇතුළු වීමේදී ගමන් මලු පරීක්ෂා කරන්නේ පොලිසිය මිස, ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනයෙන් යෙදවූ ආරක්ෂක නිලධාරීන් නොවේ. කෙසේ වුවත් පැහැදිලිවන කරුණ නම්, ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය තම වගකීම හරි හැටි ඉෂ්ඨ නොකර ඇති බවයි.

තරඟ නරඹන්නන්ට දැඩි ප්‍රවාහන අපහසුතා

සඳහන් කළයුතු අනෙක් කරුණ නම්, පල්ලෙකැළේ වැනි මහනුවරිනුත් දුර ස්ථානවල ක්‍රීඩාංගන ඉදිකිරීමේදී ප්‍රේක්ෂකයන්ගේ ගමන් පහසුව පිළිබඳවත් බළධාරීන්ගේ අවධානය යොමුවිය යුතු බව. අවාසනාව නම්, පල්ලෙකැළේ ජාත්‍යන්තර ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩාංගනය පිහිටුවා ඇති මහියංගනය මාර්ගයේ බස් ධාවනය අතිශය දුර්වල මට්ටමක බව බලධාරීන්ගේ නොදැනුවත් බවයි. රාත්‍රී 7න් පමණ පසු මෙම මාර්ගයේ මහනුවර දෙසට බස් රථයක් සෙවීම කණ කැස්බාවා විය සිඳුරෙන් අහස දකින්නාහේ වැඩකි. දිවා රාත්‍රී තරඟ නරඹන්නට පැමිණෙන බොහෝ ප්‍රේක්ෂකයාට මේ දුෂ්කරතාවට මුහුණ දීමට සිදුවේ.

පසුගියදා කුරුණෑගල සිටි පැමිණි පිරිසක් ඇතුළු ප්‍රේක්ෂක පිරිසකට මහනුවර යාමට ක්‍රමයක් නොමැතිව අළුයම 2.15 පමණ වනතෙක් ක්‍රීඩාංගනය අසල රැඳීසිටීමට සිදුව තිබේ. ජනතාව මෙවන් දුක් ගැහැට විඳගෙන, දුර ගෙවාගෙන තරඟ නරඹන්නට පැමිණෙන්නේ ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩාවට ඇති අසීමිත ආදරය නිසාවෙනි. එය ඔවුන්ගේ දුර්වල කමක් ලෙස සලකා බලධාරීන්ට දෑස් පියාගෙන සිටීමට ඉඩදිය නොහැක. ප්‍රවාහන පහසුකම් සහිත ප්‍රේමදාස ක්‍රීඩාංගනයට SLPL තරඟාවලිය සඳහා පැමිණි ප්‍රේක්ෂක සංඛ්‍යාවට වඩා වැඩි ප්‍රේක්ෂක සංඛ්‍යාවක් ප්‍රවාහන පහසුකම් අවම පල්ලෙකැළේ ක්‍රීඩාංගනයේ තරඟ නැරඹීමට පැමිණ සිටි බව අප හොඳාකාරවම දුටුවා. ප්‍රේක්ෂකයන් සෑමදා මෙය ඉවසනු නොමඇති. ක්‍රීඩාවට කොතරම් ආදරය කළද, තව දුරටත් මෙසේ දුක්ගැහැට විඳගෙන තරඟ නැරඹීමට එනවාද නැත්ද යන්න තීරණය කිරීමට සිදුවනු ඇත. ප්‍රේක්ෂකයා ක්‍රීඩාපිටියට ගෙන ඒම ගැන කතාකරන බලධාරීන් මෙය සැලකිල්ලට ගතයුතුය.
